The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court has sentenced Robert Adiglo, an 18 year-old motor mechanic apprentice to 14 years’ imprisonment for defiling a 13 year-old girl.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court, presided over by Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the complainant was a 13 year-old Primary School girl at Asuatwere, near Asamankese in the West Akyem District.
He said Adiglo who resides in Accra often visits his parents in the community and during one of such visits, he proposed love to the victim but she turned it down.
The prosecutor said on December 24, last year, at about 2000 hours, Adiglo visited the victim’s house and took advantage of the absence of her parents and had sexual intercourse with her on her mother's bed.
He said Adiglo disregarded the advice of the victim's brother who met them in the act and slept overnight with the girl.
On return of the parents, the girl’s brother reported the incident to them and when confronted the victim confirmed that Adiglo had sex with her.
A report was made to the police who later referred the case to the Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Akyem Oda.
The prosecutor said a medical report on the victim confirmed that she was sexually assaulted and her hymen broken.
During interrogation, Adiglo admitted the offence.
