Retail business giant, Melcom, is making a case for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to quicken the pace in capturing all businesses under the electronic Value Added Tax (e-VAT) system.
This is to eliminate discrimination in tax payments and subsequently help the government to rake in more revenue.
Group Managing Director of Melcom, Ramesh Sabwani, made the appeal after his outfit opening a new branch inside the West Hills Mall at Weija in Accra.
Melcom was one of the retail centers used for the pilot of the e-VAT system when it was introduced last year. This has helped the GRA to exceed its revenue target for the year.
Speaking to Journalists, Ramesh Sabwani, called for a fair system to capture all retail dealers.
“The e-VAT by the Ghana Revenue Authority allows every purchase received to be measured and directly connected to the system which makes them reconcile every evening, every month to ensure fairness and straight-forward. They need to roll out this to other small retailers also because it is difficult when consumers are paying that amount of VAT”, he lamented.

Melcom's strategic decision to establish a premium outlet within the West Hills Mall is a testament to its commitment to accessibility and convenience.
With over 30 shops, the West Hills Mall has become a sought-after destination for shoppers, catering to their various needs.
Ramesh Sabwani also spoke on plans to introduce more local products when the market demands becomes increasingly available.
Managers of the West Hills Mall assured of supporting Melcom and all other businesses willing to locate into the facility.
With its strategic position, the West Hills Mall presents a great opportunity for retail businesses to serve customers in parts of the Central Region and Greater Accra Region.
