The new owners of Merchant Bank have appointed Nilla Selormey as the new Managing Director designate.
She is a Corporate Banker with 20 years experience in West Africa having worked with Ecobank extensively, with brief stints at Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the board of directors of FORTIZ and signed by one of the directors Emmanuel Botchway.
The statement also announced that it has formally and officially taken over Merchant Bank Ghana.
The statement further assured the general public and other shareholders that they are committed to achieving the objectives of Merchant Bank.
" This includes putting all the human and capital resources necessary for the success at the bank".
They also thanked the public especially the customers of Merchant Bank and Staff for their patience and support so far.
Miss Selormey takes over from Joe Tetteh who recently took his leave prior to his retirement from the bank.
Nilla is a banker by profession and worked in the Ghanaian banking industry for 16 years with Ecobank Ghana from 1990 to 2006, and for almost 6 years working for Ecobank Transnational Incorporated from January 2008 until December 2013.
Starting with the corporate Banking Department as a relationship officer, nilla rose to set up and head the Institutional Banking department in 1997, a position she held for 5 years until 2002, after which she was assigned to head the strategy and business development Department with additional responsibilities to oversee the non bank subsidiaries of the bank.
Nilla left Ecobank Ghana to further her studies in 2004. Upon her return, she joined Zenith Bank as a director responsible for business development as part of the startup team, until she was headhunted by Fidelity to assist with their entry into the banking industry in 2006.
As an executive director at Fidelity Bank she was responsible for all the set up and of its Corporate, Retail and Private Banking activities, in addition to developing and ensuring the effective implementation of strategy.
In 2008 she was invited back to Ecobank Transnational Incorporated to assist with the set up of its office in the United Kingdom (UK). Since her return to the Ecobank Group, Nilla has had other responsibilities which include restructuring the International Organizations Department and managing the activities of the unit across all 33 countries of the Ecobank Group.
Nilla last assignment was to head up the newly formed special projects department where she had responsibilities for introducing and managing projects that would give the bank competitive advantage in its markets in Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Guinea.
A pioneer employee at all three banks Ecobank, Zenith and Fidelity Bank, Nilla has tremendous experience in business start-ups. Nilla completed her 6th form at the Rye St Anthony School in Oxford after which she obtained her first degree from the University of Essex in the UK, where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Economics, and a Masters Degree from the Henley Management College also in UK. Nilla has three children, two of whom are in University in the UK.
