JoyNews premieres its latest hotline documentary titled, Mic On, Barriers Off, on Monday, 17th March, 2025.
Produced by Emmanuel Dzivenu, the documentary highlights how media freedom serves as a lifeline for persons with disabilities (PWDs), amplifying their voices, advocating for their rights, and opening doors to opportunities.

However, with increasing attacks on journalists, the very platform that has given PWDs visibility and support is under threat.
Through the personal journeys of Esther Boadu, Isaiah Amada Awuku, and Moses Addae, the documentary showcases real-life transformations made possible through media coverage - ranging from education and mobility support to financial aid and housing.

But what happens when media freedom is compromised? Mic On, Barriers Off examines the growing threats to press freedom in Ghana and the potential impact on vulnerable communities. It sparks critical conversations on disability rights, journalist safety, and the role of a free press in shaping an inclusive society.
The JoyNews Hotline Documentary is in partnership with the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) with funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
