The Ghana Armed Forces on Monday held an Open Day in Kumasi as part of activities to mark the country’s 54 years of independence.
School children and the general public were treated to military drills, platoon battle displays, amusement shooting and display of weapons.
The school children and the public participated in the amusement shootings. They were also taken on a tour at the Armed Forces Museum, where they saw the condemned cell in which the legendary Yaa Asantewaah, Queen of Ejisu was kept after she was captured by the British during their war with the Asantes in 1900.
Lieutenant Alfred Marteye, Northern Command Public Relations Officer, said the goal was to provide an opportunity for the people to have some insight into the activities of the military.
He explained that that way, there would be improved relations, cooperation and understanding.
