An officer of the Ghana Armed Forces has reportedly been shot dead following a brutal attack by unidentified armed men in Bawku in the Upper East region.
News of the dastardly act has gone viral on social media, with many sharing news of the fatal shootings and killing of the man, believed to be a warrant officer.
He is said to have been headed somewhere on foot when he was targeted by the gunmen and shot dead.
Tensions in the troubled Bawku enclave have escalated in recent weeks with a series of fatal attacks.
In February, a woman and her two daughters were killed in their home, allegedly by men in military uniform.
Since then, the relationship between some civilians and the military has been strained. Some civilians have even dared to call for the withdrawal of the soldiers from the volatile town.
This latest killing of a soldier has caused tension in the town with some civilians in fear that the military could storm the town in Rambo style to try and fish out the culprits.
Residents and people concerned, who have been commenting on social media platforms since the news broke out, have expressed their frustrations, and called on the government to act, following its promise to end the feud.
Many expressed fear that with men possessing arms, and now able to open fire and attack the army, the situation is getting worse and more frightening.
