Faced with the prospect of being rejected by the assembly members for the second time, the President's nominee as District Chief Executive for Kwahu East, broke down and wept. The tears seemed to work the intended magic. The assembly accepted his tearful message by voting for him overwhelmingly. Mr Samuel Asamoah, 44, had appeared before the assembly a second time, having failed to obtain the two-thirds of the votes cast at the first sitting about two-weeks ago. He got only 14 of the 26 votes then. Soon after the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, performed the introduction and handed him the microphone to address the assembly at the second sitting, Mr Asamoah broke down in tears. This touched the hearts of the majority of the Assembly members, and influenced the pattern of voting. He secured 20 out of the 25 votes cast representing 80 per cent. In a short address, the Regional Minister who was accompanied by his Deputy, Mr Baba Jamal, appealed to District Chief Executives in the region to be up and doing and endeavour not to abuse the trust reposed in them. Mr Ampofo urged them to be humble and co-oper­ate with Members of Parliament for a smooth gov­ernance and development of the region. In· another development, the Kwakh West Assembly has also endorsed 47-year-old Alex Somuah Obeng, a Lecturer of Sociology at the University of Cape Coast, as DCE.
