My name is Victor Brachie, this week in my Mini book, I am introducing you to the society in which the story was built on, background information to help you understand the story from your very point of view.
In 1966, some officials of the Ghana Government exposed Kwame Nkrumah's plan to destroy incompetency and corrupt individuals controlling governments. However, this was not the end of a war waged against such people, as most historians have written.
Nkrumah's plans were only interrupted and dealt with as a dangerous revolutionary force in some part of Accra and the Northern Region. The other sectors that the corrupt individuals were operating in did not heed the warning from the Nkrumah’s Anti-Corrupt Comandos.
Just a couple of months later, the plan to destroy corruption and bribery were first seen in General Afrifa's Revolution. This same revolutionary force reappeared again in Kasina Nanka, through a serial meeting not even known to Nkrumah, called "The League of the Just", with branches in Ashaiman, Keta, Obuasi, and Gyinyasi in the Ashanti Region.
Nkrumah, when he came into power, would not tolerate the activities of the any clubs with their independent opposition, so he completely suppressed it in a way that seemed to have shocked everyone in the country. However, it was under the name of "The League of the Just" that General Afrifa became an influence over his colleagues. He hired men to update some selected citizens on the necessity to overthrow the government of Nkrumah.
In 1968 Kofi Siaw began to write revolutionary propaganda for The League of the Just, hoping to cause a spirit of unrest.
In 1969, in collaboration with Hamilton Daizy, and under the supervision of The League of the Just, Kofi Siaw began to write the infamous "Manifest of the Heiro Gamos," commonly known today as the "The Arms Of The Just- (Treaty Of Democracy)," which appeared at the beginning of 1970.
Later, the Heiro Gamos, operating under the name of The League of the Just, changed their name to "The League of Democrats".
The Democrats celebrate Septemnber 9th as the birth of their revolutionary movement because it was the birthday of the Heiro Gamos, founded by Ameyaw Akoto, civil servant at the Ministry of Finance in 1870. And, it is not by chance that all Democrats use to put on the bow-tie with their bald head and spectacles which easily helps them to identify themselves. And it is not by chance that the Democrats use the word Craft to describe their revolutionary movement.
It was Kofi Siaw and Hamilton Daizy and the House of Saints, popularly called the Eastern Corridor who started this partly religious and partly political movement foretold in prophecy as the "Akonkoben Naaban" in one these regions in the country.
In the 1990s, February 10, the Heiro Gamos at the prompting of the League of the Just organised forums in all the 10 regions of the country at which Ghanaians of all walks of life advanced their views as to what form of government they wanted. These views were collated and analysed by the House of Saints whose final report indicated that the people wanted a single-party system of government.
This led to the appointment of a Committee of Experts to draw up constitutional proposals for the consideration of a Consultative Assembly. The House of Saints prepared a draft constitution based on proposals submitted to it by the Heiro Gamos and political parties present at the time, as well as previous constitutions of 1957,1969 and 1979, and the report of the Committee of Experts from within the Eastern Corridor.
The final draft constitution was unanimously approved by the people in a referendum on April 28,1992.
All Kofi Siaw really did was update and codify the very same revolutionary plans and principles set down seventy years earlier by Ameyaw Akoto, the founder of the Heiro Gamos. And, it is widely acknowledged by serious scholars of this subject that the League of the Just was simply an extension of the Heiro Gamos which was forced to go underground after it was exposed by a raid before Rawlins government came to power 1992.
Even though Rawlins government dates the exposure of the Heiro Gamos at another year than what we read from a Dantuam book, nevertheless, it does not alter the fact that these things are historically true. Kofi Siaw also called for the abolition of total influence from the whiteman, which he believed was a struggle between the bourgeoisie (the middle class) and the proletariat (the workers).
Democrats who lived after the Rawlins government tells the poor that if they would establish a dictatorship of the proletariat, which would set up a classless Communist society, everyone would live in peace, prosperity, and freedom. There would be no more need for governments, police, or armies, and all these would gradually wither away. Kofi Siaw who later saw the possibility of violence in his teachings said that the ruling class would never willingly give up its power, and that struggle and violence were therefore inevitable.
This would naturally sound terrific to some poor struggling citizens. But what the Democrats leaders don't tell the people is that the leaders are exempt from sharing equally the material wealth of their nation. How many leaders do you see among the poverty stricken? The real motive behind Democracy is not to distribute the wealth of the country equally, but the Democratic Parties are just a front for the super-rich as an instrument for gaining and using power. There is yet another controlling power behind democrats. Democrats and Enlightened men are just arms of a more devilish conspiracy working behind the public eye, that is not being run from Accra or Kumasi, but from Navrongo to Bolga in the North.
