MobileWorld magazine announced today that Minister of Communications, Haruna Idrissu would open the 2ndGhana Telecom Summit to be held in Accra at the Holiday Inn, April 19, 2012.The theme for this year’s summit is -Consolidating the Growth in the ICT Industry, and it being sponsored by Helios Tower Ghana as the Platinum sponsor, and ATC Tower Ghana Limited, as silver sponsors.A statement signed by MobileWorld publisher, Akin Naphtal said the Minister’s presence reflected the importance the Government of Ghana attached to the development of a viable and dynamic telecoms sector.The Director General of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Paarock VanPercy is also expected to lead the regulatory session of the summit, and chart the agenda of the NCA in the next 12 months, the statement said.The statement quoted a MobileWorld editorial board member, Tony Burkson as saying: "The summit will focus on the most significant issues affecting the telecoms and wireless industry in Ghana," adding that: "Speakers include executives and wireless CEOs, top government officials, and analysts from Ghana."Akin Naphtal was also quoted as saying broadband penetration in Ghana would be extensively discussed at the summit on the premise that the availability of broadband access to the citizens of a country is no longer seen as luxury but rather a fundamental human right.“In countries like the UK, the Internet economy is a booming sector bigger than the construction industry, and this is all down to the availability of cheap broadband access, and that is the model Ghana ought to follow,” Naphtal said.Mobile World magazine is a free publication that delivers cutting edge mobile communications news, information technology, reviews, essential tips, and information on existing and new phone brands, gadgets and provides a fresh perspective in Africa telecommunications market, with headquarters in United Kingdom.
