Minister urges opinion leaders to co-operate

Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, has urged assembly and unit committee members, town and area councils and traditional leaders in the newly created Nkoranza North District to co-operate and lead the people to initiate and execute development programmes. Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people in the District at Busunya, the proposed capital, the Minister said the birth of the District would enhance the development of the communities. He expressed the hope that the opinion leaders would bury their differences and forge ahead in unity to move the District forward. Mr Adjei-Darko announced that the official inauguration of all the 32 newly created districts would take place on February 29 this year and called on stakeholders to organize the people to appreciate the birth of the District. He explained that the creation of political boundaries and the new districts did not make traditional rulers autonomous to refuse to serve the paramount chiefs “who are the custodians of the lands of the various communities”. Mr Adjei-Darko advised the chiefs to play their respective roles and to serve their various paramount chiefs well to promote peace and understanding in the area. On the impending general election, the Minister cautioned the youth to guard against negative practices that could lead to misunderstandings and violence before and after the elections. He advised Ghanaians to vote to retain the government to enable it to continue with its good policies towards the development of the country, adding, the freedom, peace and stability being enjoyed by the country was a credit to the government. Mr Adjei-Darko mentioned the construction of roads, provision of school blocks, capitation grant and the national health insurance scheme as some laudable policies of the government that must be embraced and supported. Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive, commended the people in the new district for their support for the government and urged them to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party in the December general election. Nana Okofo Nyarko Gyabaa II, Chief of Busunya, in a welcoming address expressed gratitude to the government for the creation of the district and appealed to the people to promote love, unity and cooperation among themselves. He advised the youth not to be divided by partisan politics but rather to join hands and help initiate development programmes to improve their living standards. Nana Okofo Agyapong III, Adontenhene of Nkoranza traditional area, who presided, called on the Assembly Members to collaborate with the traditional authorities for accelerated development.
