National Food and Agric Show (FAGRO) 2011 reached a climax at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park on Saturday, October 15, 2011 when the Deputy Minister of Food and Agric, Nii Amasah Namoale was adjudged the overall FAGRO-World Food Day Chef.The competition, which was organized to celebrate the World Food Day, was aimed at promoting food safety, security and adopting proper hygienic methods in our cooking.The 2nd position went to Dan Kweku Yeboah of Peace Fm, who prepared Ampesi (plantain) and Kontimore stew (palava sauce) while Alhaji Haruna Agesheka of GAPTO placed third.In an interview, the Minister said he won based on merit and not because of his position.“I adopted the appropriate methods in cooking; I was the only one who wore gloves when cooking,” he added.He urged all local restaurants to adopt the appropriate safety methods in cooking to attract more customers and advised them use their restaurants as tourist attractions by promote our local foods.Nii Odartey Lamptey, former Black Stars player, Nana Agyeman, Veronica Commey and Rite Fm’s Oliver placed the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th position respectively.The University of Ghana Performing Arts students also staged a drama titled, “Beginning with the End in Mind,” to emphasize the need for farmers, farmer-based organizations and all stakeholders to adopt the value chain process.In his remarks, Paul Schuetz, the Team leader for GIZ, sponsors of the drama, expressed his appreciation and pledged his outfit’s continuous support to FAGRO.He encouraged all corporate bodies to support FAGRO since it provides a platform for creativity and innovation to attract the youth to venture into agriculture.
