The Minority in Parliament has called on President John Mahama and Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine to urgently issue a public statement addressing the concerns raised by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
During her first public address on Wednesday regarding ongoing investigations into three petitions seeking her dismissal, the Chief Justice raised several concerns.
These included alleged breaches of procedure, violations of her human rights, and what she described as a grand conspiracy to remove her from office without justification.
Government immediately responded with a press conference of its own, addressed by spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
He described as “most regrettable” the public remarks made by the suspended Chief Justice at a press conference on Wednesday, June 25.
He further reaffirmed President John Mahama’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and the integrity of Ghana’s constitutional framework, regardless of the office or stature of the individual involved.
But the Minority does not appear satisfied with this.
At a parliamentary press conference responding to these developments, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah expressed concern over the continued silence from both the President and Attorney General, 48 hours after the Chief Justice's press conference.
The MP insisted that both officials must publicly address the Chief Justice's allegations.
