The Minority in Parliament is considering going to court over what it says are fundamental breaches in the deal to hand over power supply to the Power Distribution Service (PDS).

Former Deputy Energy Minister, John Jinapor says their primary motive is to protect assets of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which prior to the PDS takeover, was in charge of distributing power to consumers.

“I’m not interested in fraud [but] I’m interested in the protection of EC’s assets…” the MP for Yapei Kusawgu Constituency told Newsfile host, Samson Lardi Anyenini, Saturday.

He said members on the Minority are determined to “pursue this matter to the logical conclusion” because “some people slept on the job.”

“Some people did a great disservice to this country,” he added.

Mr Jinapor further hinted of plans by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on which ticket he represents his constituents, to hold a news conference to be addressed on the issue by General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Background

Following the suspension of the PDS/ECG takeover deal by the government on July 30, MiDA engaged FTI Consulting, to conduct forensic audit over the alleged fraudulent guarantee documents submitted.

The consultant in its report to MiDA which was intercepted by JoyNews, said there is no evidence to suggest any of the entities involved in the deal conspired to defraud the state.

The private auditor also said it did not find any information to suggest that either PDS, Cal Bank, Donewell and or personnel from MiDA committed or conspired to commit fraud or other malfeasance, in relation to the demand guarantees.

”We have not identified any information to suggest that either PDS, Cal Bank, Donewell and/or personnel from MiDA committed or conspired to commit fraud or other malfeasance in relation to the demand guarantees,” the report stated.
