The Minority in Parliament is pressing the Ministry of Education for a detailed plan regarding the distribution of Tablets to Senior High Schools (SHSs) under the Ghana Smart Schools Project (GSSP).
Their request aims to ensure thorough oversight of the distribution process, guaranteeing that every school and student benefits from the initiative.
Dr Clement Apaak, the Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament's Education Committee, said this during a session of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, which conducted a field visit to the factory and offices of KA Technologies Ltd. in Accra.
KA Technologies is responsible for manufacturing the Students’ Mate Tablets being distributed to schools as part of the One Student – One Tablet initiative, designed to advance digitalized teaching and learning.
The Committee's visit was part of its constitutional oversight duties, specifically focusing on education sector matters. The delegation toured the company’s production facilities, aftercare services, and call centers, engaging with management to gain insights into the company’s operations.
Led by Chairman Kwabena Amankwah Asiamah and Ranking Member Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the parliamentary delegation received assurances from the company's General Manager, Mr Lawrence Hornuvo, regarding the commitment to delivering high-quality products and services to clients, including the government.
“We pride ourselves in delivering robust, quality products and services in a timely manner and so far, this has not been compromised,”he said.
The Committee Chairman praised the company for its commendable progress thus far and encouraged them to redouble their efforts to ensure universal access to tablets for all students, thereby facilitating their educational journey.
“Actually, coming here has demystified our thoughts on how these tablets were going to get to the students; we have the full understanding of what is on the tablet, its usage and the distribution pattern, quantities to be distributed’,” he said.
