The Minority in Parliament is grieving not only about the death of President John Mills but a missed opportunity to reconcile with him. Its leader Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the criticisms of the late president whilst he was alive were without malice. In a glowing tribute paid to the late president on the floor of Parliament, Thursday, the Minority Leader said the criticisms were not meant to be insulting, assuring the spirit of the late president that they did not harbor ill-feeling. “My eternal regret, Madam Speaker and indeed the sincerest regret of the Minority caucus is the fact that we did not have the opportunity to have reconciled with the president after he accused us of insulting him on daily basis. “We would have assured him that our critique were not meant to be insulting but I trust that we can reconcile in life-after-life. “On my part and on the part of the Minority, we would want to assure the spirit of our beloved president that we did not harbor any ill-feeling against him. “May history be kind to Prof John Evans Atta Mills; may mother earth lie softly on him and may the good Lord grant him peaceful eternal rest. He told Joy News’ Evans Mensah, shortly after his tribute that he took steps to mend the seemingly strained relationship with the late president but was not successful. According to him, he wrote a private letter to President John Mills apologizing for any offence the minority may have committed but sadly the President could not reply before his untimely death. His tribute notwithstanding, the Minority Leader said with the sad passing of President John Mills, the nation must help demystify the issue of the health of a sitting president. “Why was an entire nation caught so unprepared, such that the period leading to the death of the president is full of some missing links. The health status of the president should not have become such a taboo topic the way some managers made it to become. Such that even get well soon statement became almost treasonable," he stated. He said the country and the appropriate institutions must take steps to correct the anomaly so it doesn’t happen again. Having failed to reconcile with the dead president, Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu told Joy News they will take steps to reconnect with the new President, John Mahama so that criticisms will be purely based on issues and not personal attacks. The Majority Leader Cletus Avoka applauded the Minority for demonstrating the spirit of reconciliation in these difficult times. He told Joy News all must sustain the goodwill the country is enjoying in order to ensure a peaceful country.
