The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has for the second time rescheduled its planned protest to demand the resignation of the governors of the Bank of Ghana to Tuesday, October 3.
While the exercise had earlier been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 12 due to a police injunction against the chosen route of the protest over national security concerns, this new date is in response to the commencement of the limited voters registration exercise.
In a press statement announcing the decision, the Chairman of the Party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah stated that “the change of date was necessitated by the commencement of the Limited Voters Registration Exercise to be organized by the Electoral Commission which starts on the same day as the original date of the protest.”
Reiterating flagbearer of the party, John Mahama’s call, Mr. Nketiah urged all eligible voters to avail themselves so they can get their names onto the voters’ register.
“And after that exercise, we shall mobilise our teeming supporters to join in the demonstration against the rot and corruption that has eaten deep into the management of the central bank,” he said.
He assured the general public that “absolutely nothing will stand in our way on the rescheduled date as we stand ready and willing to protest vigorously against the crass leadership offered by President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party which has affected every facet of our national life and is manifested particularly by the nation-wrecking activities of the top management of the Bank of Ghana.”
