There have been mixed reactions in Kumasi to President John Evans Atta Mills’ 100 days in office and the interaction with the media over his performance during his 100 days in office. Speaking at separate interviews with Radio Ghana, the Provost of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Professor Daniel Buor, said the increase in petroleum prices within the first 100 days is a discredit to the government. He appealed to President Mills to explain to Ghanaians that it is only the National Petroleum Authority that is mandated to regulate fuel prices. Prof. Buor also mentioned environmental sanitation and appointment of 40% women in government as some of the areas that he has failed to deliver in 100 days. He, however, blamed the problem on the global economic recession. A Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Prof. Nicholas Amponsah, also called on Ghanaians to exercise some restraint since one hundred days are not enough to judge a government. He said from all indications, the government is on course as the foundation to effective administration has been made. A businessman and an National Patriotic Party, (NPP) stalwart, George Ayisi Boateng, said in spite of assembling cabinet Ministers and forming a lean government, sanitation and crimes are on the increase. For his part, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party, (CPP), Samuel Danso, said even though 100 days are too short a period for any government to be genuinely assessed, he is impressed with the performance of the government. He mentioned in particular, the putting in place of the full complement of government. Mr. Danso commended President Mills for the able manner in which he has handled issues relating to the previous government. The Chairman however described as unfortunate the attacks on perceived opponents of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) soon after the inauguration saying such tendencies could be a recipe for tension and strife in society.
