A medical report of one of the thirteen commercial drivers who were allegedly physically abused by some military personnel at the 37 Military Hospital, is said to have confirmed the victim was indeed maltreated.According to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the ribs of the said driver (name withheld) have been affected by the ill-treatment.Deputy General Secretary of the GPRTU in charge of operations, Ernest Tham disclosed to Asempa News that, the committee established by the Military High Command to investigate the alleged abuse, asked the victims to go to the 37-Military Hospital for treatment, but the drivers chose private hospitals for treatment.Mr. Tham noted that the GPRTU was yet to receive the reports of the remaining twelve. He said they believe the problem would have been caused by the maltreatment since the drivers were forced into the mortuary to clean corpses without any protective gear.Mr. Tham said apart from the rib problem, the drivers need a psychologist to restore their confidence since the maltreatment has affected them severely. He said some of the drivers were afraid at the initial stages to come out, however, after some of drivers boldly came out, more of the drivers have mustered courage and are coming out.He therefore expressed the hope that the military committee will do all they can, to resolve the issue since the drivers are suffering. Some soldiers and mortuary attendants of the Hospital were alleged to have subjected several commercial drivers they arrested for traffic offences to play roles with corpses at the morgue.Credit: Kwaku Antwi-Otoo (Asempa FM)
