E-zwich subscribers can now receive money directly from the UK on their E-zwich cards. This follows an agreement between the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System, GhIPSS, and International Money Transfer Company, Unity Link. The service is in due course expected to be extended to Germany and Holland in which Unity Link operates other subsidiaries.Archie Hesse, General Manager for Projects and Business Development at GhIPSS stated:“A Unity Link branch takes the pounds and converts it into cedis after taking their commission and charges."They would then ask for the E-zwich card number of the beneficiary in Ghana for the amount to be directly transferred onto the E-zwcih card. Once that is done moments afterwards, the beneficiary can either access the money on their card or go to any bank to withdraw that fund,” he explained.Mr. Hesse also outlined the key benefits of the initiative to the E-zich card bearers.“The money is sent directly to the individual and it is only the indidviual who can have access to the funds. Also is the the speed at which the transfer is done, the security and being a cheaper option compared to the current international money transfer platforms on the market”.
Meanwhile, the GHIPSS has been awarded by Carte-Afrique as the institution with the most-efficient payment and settlement system so far in West, North and Central Africa.
