National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth at Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District have appealed to President J.E.A Mills to dissolve the Pre-mix fuel committee members for alleged embezzlement of funds.
The youth alleged that since the committee was inaugurated last year, its work had not favored the development of the town or welfare of party members.
Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Moree on Thursday, Mr Anthony Kudzi, spokesperson for the youth, regretted that the way and manner committee members were handling issues would adversely affect the prospects of the NDC in the 2012 elections.
He said the youth had also lost confidence and trust in the members and therefore appealed to the President to take steps to salvage the party in the Constituency from disintegration.
Mr Kudzi noted that the committee had woefully failed to account for profit accrued from the sale of products in October and November, 2009.
He claimed the operations of the committee had not satisfied the youth and summoned the members and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs Aba Edusah, to appear before Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe , Central Regional Minister, to give an account of their stewardship.
Mr Kudzi also slammed the members for spending huge sums of money on the inauguration of the committee and other activities in January and February this year.
When the GNA contacted Nana Kwaa Agyaa, Chief Fisherman and Chairman of the Committee, he denied the allegations levelled against him and other members by the youth.
According to him, the allegations were baseless and unfounded and that they were a calculated attempt to dent the committee’s hard-won image.
Nana Agyaa said the committee had given 180,000.00 Ghana Cedis to the town as its share for developmental projects from the sale of the product since its inauguration last year.
He added that 200 Ghana Cedis had been set aside to be given to party members, chiefs and committee members.
Nana Agyaa gave the break down as 50 Ghana cedis for the administration of the Party, 100 Ghana Cedis for the committee's activities and 50 Ghana Cedis for the chiefs from the sale of every consignment they received.
The Chief Fisherman said the youth of the party were peeved because the DCE had appointed Mr Kofi Armah and Ms Harimatu Awudu as secretary and treasurer of the pre-mix fuel committee.Source: GNA
