A woman and her two-year-old baby have been confirmed dead Sunday morning after a bizarre fire razed their home at Kuntunse Estates, a community in the Ga West District of Accra.
The fire at the three-bedroom self-contained apartment at GHS Housing Limited was reported a few minutes after 4:00 a.m. but was doused more than an hour later, a fire service officer said.

Assistant Fire Officer Francis Opoku Amponsah, told Joy News that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fatal fire.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told Joy News they heard the woman and her son shouting for help as the fire consumed the property but died before it was brought under control around 05:20 a.m.

Another eyewitness told Joy News that before the fire outbreak got out of control a man – believed to be the boyfriend of the woman who perished in the fire – said he rushed out of the house only to see that his vehicle, parked outside, was already on fire.
According to the eyewitness, the man said a misunderstanding that had ensued between him and the deceased resulted in him sleeping in the hall, but he woke up to the sight of his wife spraying pepper on his entire body.
The eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity said the victim’s boyfriend told them he attempted to wash off the pepper from his body but that angered his wife even further and she sprayed more pepper on him.
It was at this point that he rushed out of the house to see his car burning.
But the Assistant Fire Officer, Francis Opoku Amponsah, said he could not confirm these eyewitness reports.
“We are still conducting our investigations. These are the views of the public. We are still conducting our investigations. Once we are done, we will let the public know the real cause of the fire,” he said.
