Mr Isaac Osei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin, has called on supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to maintain a rock solid front and work as a team to recapture political power in 2012.
They should step up their campaign to broaden the party's support base and voter appeal.
He said many Ghanaians had become disappointed with the bad leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and yearning for a change, a development that gives the NPP a political advantage.
Mr Osei was speaking at a ceremony to formally welcome a group of former NDC supporters who had defected to the NPP at Yalewa, a Zongo community in his constituency.
The group numbering about 300 crossed to the NPP about a month ago. They accused the NDC government of deception and lies.
Mr Osei said everything pointed to the fact that Ghanaians were unhappy with the performance of the NDC government and wanted a change.
The change, he said, would not come so easily and there was therefore the need for party members and supporters to work hard to tell the NPP's success story under the Kufuor Administration and vision for 2012.
Mr Iddris Yahaya, spokesperson for the group, accused the NDC of having failed to deliver on its election promises and said the decision to defect to the NPP was out of the free will of the individuals. "We are not playing a mind game."
Meanwhile, Mr Osei had picked a nomination form to contest the Subin seat for the second time and pledged to continuously work to give the NPP resounding victory.
