Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu Yunyoo constituency, Duut Emmanuel Kwame has denied receiving sponsorship from notorious armed robbery suspect Johnson Kombian, during the 2008 general election.
Mr Duut, who is also rumored to have engineered the escape of Kombian from a Ghanaian jail, told Citi News in an interview that all the allegations against him are false and "funny."
According to him he suspects those circulating the rumours are doing that out of mischief.
"This is funny…whoever is giving that false information needs to be interrogated and brought to book. That is a lie; it is an agenda by someone to dent my reputation or to ruin my name. It is a lie, I can't remember a day that Kombian was arrested and I went there, it is a fabrication".
Mr Duut also denied rumors that an accomplice arrested together with Kombian in Togo over the weekend is a relative who has been going on robbing sprees with the notorious armed robber.
"It is a lie, I have no relation with the name Jato, Kombian has no relation with me, that is a lie, that person is a liar. Kombian has never known me and we are never related in any way. I am prepared to face anybody with that information that Kombian is my relative".
He added that he is confident that the allegations are being made by his political detractors.
Johnson Kombian was arrested in Togo on Saturday, November 20, 2010 and was extradited to Ghana on Sunday.
A source in the Police Service told Citi News that Kombian arrived in the country in the company of heavily armed security officials from Togo and Interpol.
