The Member of Parliament for Offinso South, Dr Owusu Achaw Duah, has said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is one of the most important legacies that the Kufuor administration would bequeath to the nation. He has therefore urged all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliation, to take advantage of the scheme and register.
Dr Duah said this at separate meetings in some communities in the constituency to explain to them government policies and programmes as well as parliamentary activities.
Among the communities he visited were Bonsua, Wawase, Abofour, Kwapanin, Barniekrom, Ayaasu, Dumasua, Asuboi, Apotosu, Amaning, Agogo and Kyebi.
Dr Duah said the health of the people was very important and that was the reason the government was trying to device measures that would promote quality health care delivery to the people at all times.
He called for unity among the people in the communities to promote development and improvement in their living conditions.
Mr A. C. Ntim, the District Chief Executive for Offinso, said the government had released one billion cedis towards the NHIS in the district for the first quarter of the year and urged those who have not yet registered to do so.
He said the assembly had resolved to complete all ongoing development projects before new ones were initiated and appealed to the people to rekindle their communal spirit by initiating development projects in order to attract the assistance of the assembly.
Mr Ntim said the assembly had this year nursed over one million cocoa seedlings for distribution to farmers and urged interested farmers to take advantage to expand their farms.
He also appealed to chiefs and unit committee members to monitor the activities of cocoa spraying gangs and report any misconduct for disciplinary action to be taken.
The people appealed for the rehabilitation of their roads, provision of potable water, classroom blocks and furniture for their schools.GNA
