Members of Parliament elected in the just-ended elections are to undergo Covid-19 tests ahead of the 8th Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament Friday, Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu indicated that the initiative will ensure the safety of MPs after engaging in campaign activities during the elections.
He appealed to all legislators to make themselves available for the exercise to ensure they execute their duties without health-related obstacles.
“We need to resubmit ourselves to the necessary Covid-19 tests. We entreat every member to submit him/herself to enable us to enter the new year," he stated.
A total of 275 legislators are expected to partake in the Covid-19 testing.
Meanwhile, according to the Ghana Health Service, the country holds 53,553 confirmed cases, 52,266 recoveries/discharges, 956 active cases, 331 deaths and 62 new cases as of December 14, 2020.
President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo says his topmost priority following his 2020 presidential election victory is to get the country back in top shape.
“My immediate task will be to continue with the process of reversing the effects Covid-19 has had on our economy and our lives and put the nation on course for full economic recovery and development.”
