The Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) on Wednesday distanced itself from an e-mail scam falsely claiming that some individuals will receive Nokia N95 and NF90 if they forwarded an e-mail to eight and twenty people.
The said the e-mail also claims that the promotion formed part of the MTN brand awareness campaign.
A statement by the MTN in Accra signed by Mawuena Dumor, Corporate Services Executive said: “The company is neither organising such a promotion
nor has it authorised a third party to do so.”
The statement said promotion campaigns run by MTN, one of Ghana’s leading telecommunication networks, satisfy a number of criteria including advertising in a mix of media namely television, radio and newspapers.
According to the statement winners of promotions are published in the newspapers alerting them on their office lines (0244300000).
“MTN promotions do not require participants to part with either money or airtime in order to redeem the prize,” the statement said.
It therefore tasked customers to call MTN dedicated hotlines, toll free on 111 if they were in doubt about the authenticity of any promotion attributed to MTN.
“MTN will continue to work hard with the authorities to combat bogus promotional campaigns aimed at fleecing the unsuspecting public.”
