MTN Ghana, the leading service provider in voice and data services has appointed Mohammed Rufai as the Chief Technical Officer with the responsibility of managing MTN Ghana’s network and overseeing the implementation of its technical plans and strategies.
Mohammed Rufai has a vast experience in Technology, Networks, Project Management and Information System. He has more than 13 years working experience, having worked in various capacities as a telecoms engineer with MTN Nigeria which has the largest Network in Africa and Middle East.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Rufai held various management positions in MTN Nigeria including General Manager, Network Operations, General Manager Network Access and General Manager Network Planning and Optimization.

Throughout his career, Mr. Rufai has chalked several successes, some of which include the implementation of Managed Services in MTN Nigeria (from scope definition to service commencement) and supported it implementation in MTN South Africa.
More significantly, Mr. Lawal played an instrumental role in MTN Group’s bid preparation for GSM license in Myanmar. He also led the technical stream of Towercotransition in MTN Nigeria
In a related development, Mr. Reuben Opata, has been appointed as the Head of Network Planning for MTN Ghana.
Reuben Opata, who until recently was the Senior Manager for Network Planning will be responsible for the development and determination of MTN’s network planning and design strategy, in line with corporate and business strategy.
He will also manage the planning of MTN Ghana’ Network Switching System, Base Station Systems (including multiple Radio Access Networks), and Transmission network (Fiber and Microwave) at a national level. Reuben will also be in charge of the management of MTN Ghana’s spectrum and technology roadmaps.
Mr. Reuben Opata played an instrumental role in the rollout of MTN’s 2G and 3G networks serving in various capacities as a senior Engineer with the Radio Network Access Planning & Optimization department of MTN.
Reuben reports directly to Mohammed Rufai.
