MTN Ghana has initiated moves to make Telecom Reporting one of the areas of specialization at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
MTN began the move as part of its 21 Day Yello Care activities for this year, which started June first and ended Thursday, June 21, 2012, under the theme “Education – A tool for Development.”
Executive Secretary of MTN Ghana Foundation, Robert Kuzoe told Adom News this year’s Yello Care activities took MTN staff to Ghana Institute Journalism where they educated the students about the importance and prospects of specializing in Telecom Reporting.
He said they also spoke with school authorities on the need to establish Telecoms Reporting as an area of specialization, given the dynamism, the impact and contribution of the sector to national development.
“We have initiated talks with the authorities at GIJ and we would follow it up with finding out ways supporting the school to establish a solid course outline and content for the Telecom Reporting,” he said.
Meanwhile, during the 21 Days of Yello Care, MTN staff also visited GIMPA, the Trades Union Congress (TUC), and Labone Secondary School in Accra and educated each of those institutions of relevant topics.
Robert Kuzoe said they educated the Executive MBA students of GIMPA on how small-scale and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) could transform in a technological era; and educated Business Students of Labone Secondary School on investments, savings, taxations and various professional areas they could go into after school.
"We have also educated heads of schools and bursars on the need to make it easy for pareents to pay their children's school fees with Mobile Money," he said.
He also noted MTN was still working on sustaining the success of its tree growing initiative from Yello Care last year, saying that MTN Foundation members have been paying regular visits to trees planted last years and replacing dead ones to ensure all the trees grew.
