Call it the battle of the most talented and you would not be far from the truth as it was well displayed last Friday, during the auditions of the 6th season of MTN Hitmaker.
A little over 200 young talents converged at the Charterhouse Studios to battle out for a slot and hopefully proceed to the next stage of the competition.
With over 2,500 entries from all over Ghana and as far as Nigeria, Sierra Leone and even the UK, the search team, who also happen to be the seasoned beat makers, Richie Mensah, Magnum and DJ Breezy, were more than elated to see and hear so many talents with one dream – to become Ghana’s next MTN Hitmaker after Kurl Songx who won in 2016.
Ahead of this encounter, the search panel had to meet weekly to listen to and shortlist from the thousands of demos, that had been sent in from all over the country and beyond.
The format for this face-to-face encounter with the contestants was straightforward and separated the most talented from those who had a lot of help in producing their demos.
Contestants were given two chances to perform for the panel after which a decision was made based on nothing but delivery.
From singing to rapping and to dancehall, every act that hit the stage knew exactly what was at stake, hence brought everything they had to impress the panel but despite a blitz of a stunning display of talents, the judges had to make their cut.
According to all three-panel members, the talents that auditioned this year were absolutely incredible and they are upbeat about a swell season as the final 12 could be very difficult to select.
The second phase of the audition was a way for the judges to find that x-factor in the contestants. They were now looking beyond just the talent, but also originality and showmanship. After what the judges termed, an intensive session, they finally picked their final 24.
MTN Hitmaker 6 will be hosted by Giovani Caleb with Berla Mundi.
The show starts airing on Saturday, August 19 on GhOne TV and Metro TV, 7pm and 8pm respectively and on Sunday on UTV at 3pm, TV3 at 5pm, 4Syte TV at 6pm and Joy Prime at 8pm.
