MTN Ghana said it has a bundle that offers up to 0.4 Ghana pesewas per megabyte of data, which is the lowest on the market currently.MTN had earlier promoted a bundle that offered 1.2Gp per megabyte as the lowest on the market, but Innovation Manager, Marketing at MTN Ghana, Nana Osei Afrifa said “I was wrong because our lowest is 0.8Gp and we give 50% off every bundle at night and that comes to 0.4Gp on that bundle.”He said that the offer is the 100 Gigabyte bundle that sells for GHS 800, whiles the 1.2Gp is on the 10GB for GHS 120 bundle.Meanwhile the lowest rate per megabyte on Tigo is 1.15Gp, on Airtel is 1.2Gp, on Vodafone is 1.24Gp and on Expresso is 0.92Gp.MTN also offers pay-as-you-go data rate at 6Gp per megabyte, which is marginally higher than Expresso’s 5Gp per megabyte, but three times lower than Vodafone and Airtel’s 20Gp per megabyte.Tigo’s pay-as-you-go offer consumers credit once the customer connects the modem without even browsing.Mr. Afrifa also maintained that MTN’s default internet speed of 7.2megabits per second is the fastest on the market.He explained that even though on paper one operator had speeds of up to 14.4megabits per second, that operator gives only 124kilobits per second speed to the home, whiles MTN gives 7.2megabits per second to the home at no extra cost to the customer.Tigo’s internet speed is up to 3.6megabits per second, Vodafone has speeds of up to 14.4megabits per second, Airtel has up to 7.2megabits per second and Expresso has up to 3.1megabits per second, but each of them has lower default speeds.But a telecom experts told Adom News that internet speeds on paper was far from the reality customers experience, because it is affected by several factors outside the control of the service providers and the customers.The expert said internet speed could be affected by congestion on cell site, congestion between the cell site and other equipment of the service provider, congestion on path that connects the service provider and the website operators either here or abroad and other such technical factors.It could also be affected by whether the customer is stable or in motion, the type of file one is downloading and even what automatic software updates go on without the customer’s knowledge.
