MTN, one of the leading telecommunication networks in the country, on Friday, donated a cheque for GHC25,000, to the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, as its contribution towards the 50th anniversary celebration of the region.
Mrs Eleanor Sarpong, Government and Regulatory Relations Senior Manager, who presented the cheque, said MTN thrived on good relations and leadership and for the Upper East Region to attain 50 Years in its life, was worthy of support.
She also presented souvenirs such as caps, T-shirts, files, footballs and vuvuzelas, to support football activities and durbars during the anniversary.
She said the items would continue to remind its users that MTN was part of them.
Mrs Sarpong asked people in the region to take the registration of SIM cards seriously, saying that, personnel had been posted at vantage points to assist customers to register.
She said MTN also placed high premium on education and expressed the hope that early next year, it would commission a GHC100,000 Information Technology Centre (ICT) at Pwalugu in the Talensi Nabdam District.
Mr Mark Owen Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, received the cheque and items on behalf of the chiefs and the people and thanked MTN for supporting the region.
He said at 50 years, the region was showcasing its potentials and rich culture and that, rich mineral resources like gold and diamond were in abundance and waiting to be exploited.
He expressed his disappointment at the low response to the sponsorship appeal towards the anniversary and thanked MTN for the positive action.
