Two of Multimedia Group’s award winners have earned praises from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second, for setting high standards in journalism to bring honour to them and their country.
Management and staff of the Kumasi Business Unit were at the Manhyia Palace on Friday to introduce to His Royal Majesty Ghana’s 2015 Journalist of the Year, Seth Kwame Boateng of Joy FM and Africa Press Organization Best Journalist for Energy Reporting, Luv FM’s Kofi Adu Domfeh.
General Manager, Jim Aglah, led the 13-member team to present the symbolic plaques to Otumfuo and to ask for his encouragement and blessing.
Otumfuo said for the two to have been recognized nationally and internationally is indicative of the excellent work they are doing to contribute to national development.
He pointed out Ghana and Africa are grappling with too many development issues for which reason the media cannot afford to focus on politics with little or no impact on human progress.
Otumfuo lamented media attention appears to focus only on politicians at the expense of farmers, teachers, doctors and nurses, scientist and researchers , among others, who are sacrificing to make life better for Ghanaians.
“These are the people whose stories I want to hear the media tell, not politicians who tell us what they want us to hear,” he stated.
“Why are JHS graduates unable to gain admission into second-cycle schools, why are SHS graduates unable to gain admission into tertiary institutions just because of admission cut-off points due to inadequate facilities as a result of which they end up on the streets’’? Otumfuo questioned.
He challenged the award winners to consider their feat as a challenge to do more to impact positively on society and win more laurels in the years ahead.
Otumfuo announced an undisclosed package for Seth Kwame Boateng and Kofi Adu Domfeh.
