Mr Mazen Mrour, Chief Information Officer of Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN), on Friday called on private and multinational companies operating in Ghana to contribute to the development of the society that made them successful.
He said this at a tree planting exercise, organized by MTN as part of their annual “21-day social responsibility campaign”, in collaboration with the Department of Parks and Gardens and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
In all, 200 trees were planted along the stretch of road from Independence Square to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum area.
He said the Ghanaian community had contributed so much towards the success of the company, adding that the 21-day campaign, which started on June 1, was to say “thank you Ghana, thank you our cherished customers for being part of our success story”.
He said the tree planting exercise was so important that the company would do whatever in their powers to keep the trees alive.
Mr. Charles Okine, Senior Landscape Designer of the Department of Parks and Gardens, said avenue trees provided shade and beauty and enhanced rainfall patterns.
He said Ghanaians should take good care of the trees for posterity to inherit.
Mr George Andah, Marketing Manager MTN, said they believed that trees had a lot of economic importance and environmental benefits.
He said Zoomlion, which was partnering them in the tree planting exercise, would help do the necessary cultural practices such as watering, weeding around the trees, and in case some of them died, they would be replanted.
Mr Andah said anyone who had any ideas about how MTN could help develop his or her community could come out for them to be incorporated into the 21-day programme.Source: GNA
