The 2004 Auditor-General’s forensic report on the National Vocational Training Institute has been laid before Parliament.
Majority leader Alban Bagbin laid the report which covered the period 1997 – 2002 on Monday January 13, 2009.
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ave-Avenor, Doe Adjaho, referred the report to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament for assessment and recommendations.
The document is believed to contain acts of financial impropriety against Foreign Minister Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni who was then Employment and Social Welfare Minister.
The allegations of financial malfeasance against the minister are set to dominate discussions in Parliament when the House begins debating issues in it.
The Minority gave strong indications, reports Joy News' Sammy Darko, of their preparedness to hit hard at the government when the debate starts.
Discrepancies in the report generated heated arguments during Alhaji Mumuni’s vetting culminating in a walk-out by the Minority Members of Parliament’s Appointment Committee.
They had insisted the committee suspended the vetting of Alhaji Mumuni pending the determination of a court case he initiated on the matter.
But the committee Chairman, Doe Adjaho, disagreed, ruling that the vetting procedures.
A political pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance filed a petition protesting his nomination as Foreign Minister and cited the audit report which then was a subject of a court case.
The pressure group called on the president to withdraw the nomination of the former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu.
