Some Ghanaian musicians are planning to stage a concert to raise funds to support victims of last Wednesday’s floods that caused havoc in Accra.

The concert, which is still in its planning stages, will see some of the country’s musicians joining forces to use their talents to raise funds to support the thousands who have been affected by the floods.

A heavy downpour last Wednesday night, June 3, submerged several parts of the capital with the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Avenor, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Mallam Junction being the worst hit.

There was also an explosion at the Goil filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle leading to the death of more than a 100 people.

Thousands of people have been displaced by the floods with many badly in need of support.

The country’s entertainment personalities have been called upon to use their influence to mobilise support for the affected.

Singer Rebecca Akosua Acheampong, popularly known on stage as Becca, had disclosed that she is marshalling some of her colleagues to raise funds for victims of the deadly floods.

Affirming Becca’s intentions, rapper Edem revealed during an interview on Airtel Entertainment News on Drive Time on Joy FM Monday that the singer is currently in consultations with a number of artistes and a concert is in the offing.

“Becca has reached out to me. She said bro, I think we should do a concert and give money to the people. She is speaking to a set of artistes so we want to work on that and we want to raise funds and give to these people,” he said.

Edem, who won Best International Act-Africa at 2015 Black Canadian Awards last Saturday, expressed the view that the call to support victims of the floods shouldn’t be that of only the celebrities but should be a collective one.

“We all have to do something, you don’t have to be a celebrity. I think once somebody’s entire house is gone up in flames, it means even if you have an outfit or a sneaker or something you can give them they can make do with it, even if it’s a bag of water.”

In his own small way, the rapper said, “Personally, I Am Edem Foundation, I’m talking with VRMG to support me so I could do something personally for the people.”

A massive relief effort being spearheaded by Joy FM brought succour to victims and survivors of the disaster. Joy FM is running the relief campaign all week.

Bales of used and new clothing, bags of water and rice, oil, bread rolls, bars of soap, detergents, and food mobilized by the station and its generous listeners and partners have been distributed to the victims.

Edem, who acknowledged Joy FM’s initiative, said, “Even if we can’t go ourselves we can come here, give whatever we have for Joy FM to present to the victims.”
