Malam Issah Ayi, Chief of the Muslim Community at Dromankese in the Nkoranza North District of Brong-Ahafo Region, has urged Muslim parents to enrol their children in Arabic schools to help them to develop interest in Islam.
Malam Ayi was addressing the parents of the English/Arabic Primary School at a meeting at Dromankese to discuss strategies that would help to promote the growth and development of the School.
He noted that Muslim children in public schools at times quit lessons to go and pray adding that it was against this background that the community had started the school to encourage the children to grow in the Islam faith.
Malam Ayi expressed concern about the low enrolment of Muslim children particularly girls in schools and stressed the importance for Muslim leaders to enact bye-laws that would help to promote education in the communities.
He said the school, which was yet to be absorbed into the public system had a population of 140 pupils.
Malam Ayi deplored negative practices and attitudes of some parents, who encouraged their girls to enter into early marriages instead of pursuing higher education.
