The curiosity of Spectator Agoro to fish into the love-life of the controversial Hiplife singer Mzbel, has eventually landed the ‘big’ answer, to the million-dollar question many often ask if she will ever marry. Exactly a month now since reports hit the news-stands that the sexy musician has had a secret wedding in Nigeria, Mzbel can now break her silence on the issue and confide in the Ghanaian Spectator when, where and how her ‘actual’ wedding will come off. The singer, whose real name is Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, told Agoro on Tuesday that she would be getting married this year, possibly on her birthday which is December 26, “if fiancé agrees to the date.” According to her, she would love to have the wedding at “the La-Palm Gardens where I can watch the sea and feel the breeze,” as the day would be her happiest day ever. “It’ll be lovely and interesting to have my wedding there, but all the same, my fiancé has the final say.” Mzbel and the fiancé went for a karaoke party at the La-Palm royal Beach Hotel last week Saturday (June 12) where the latter surprisingly “proposed to me with a gold and diamond ring. Instantly I screamed and ran out of the casino because I couldn’t contain the joy that bubbled in my heart,” she said, sounding very elated. “I afterwards came back to the casino and accepted the proposal.” The two lovebirds have been seeing each other since November last year, and Mzbel hopes that the wedding would help end media speculations on her marriage. “I haven’t had any secret wedding anywhere as a section of the media reported about a month ago,” she said, as she went ahead to give a clue about who her husband-to-be was. “He’s a very quiet and lovely person who comes from the Volta Region,” she teased, adding that “his middle name is Mawuli; that’s the only thing I can tell you for now.” Now that the dust about her marriage may soon settle, Mzbel also set the records straight about her dressing. “Some people think I’m spoilt because of the way I dress, but I’m not. I only dress that way when I’m mounting the musical stage to perform. So don’t use that to misjudge me because the rules of showbiz demand that.” She said her fiancé understood her “because he knows that I’m not that ‘spoilt’ as some people think I am.” Turning her attention to the World Cup tournament currently ongoing in South Africa, Mzbel wished the Black Stars good luck in her attempt to annex the holy grail, “but p-l-e-a-s-e, whoever has Asamoah Gyan’s (phone) number should give it to me right now, ‘cause I dey feel ‘am too much!’ Mzbel shot to fame in 2003 when she released the hit album Awoso Me, winning her the New Artiste of the Year award at the Music of Ghana Awards in Italy that year. Her subsequent albums, 16 Years and Saucy Girl, have contributed in making her the toast of many music-lovers, mostly the youth. Despite her suggestive lyrics and controversial sex-appeal dressings, Mzbel has also been in the forefront of the fight against women abuse and child molestation in the country, earning her a Portrait of an Excellent Woman Award in 2007.
