Government is well on its way to winning the drug war, says Robert Ayalingo, Executive Secretary of the Narcotic Control Board.
According to him, the supply of cocaine into the country has dwindled because of the change in government as well as the special operation with the British government known as Operation Westbridge.
The drug menace became a huge political issue in the heat of the December 2008 elections, with the then opposition NDC accusing government of complicity in the drug trade.
Having assumed the reigns of power it is expected the NDC government will put mechanisms in place to fight the canker.
"With the change of government, I think the drug traffickers have relocated. They have managed, some of them we are told have moved out and are storing their wares in neighboring countries like Togo, Nigeria, and they don't know the new strategy the government is going to put in place," Mr Ayalingo told Joy News' Sammy Darko.
He disclosed the shortage of supply of the cocaine has pushed prices so high, selling at $28,000-$30,000 per kilo.
Mr. Ayalingo was full of praise for the level of cooperation the country has enjoyed so far with development partners like United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany saying, "the cooperation is so good that if somebody arrives in New York from Ghana and is arrested with drugs, by the next day we have the information, so we can easily tell whether drugs are getting through or not."
"Previously the number of arrests that were reported from outside were so high, but now very very few arrests have been made," he added.
