The National Association of Graduate Teachers has given government up to January 25 to resolve all outstanding disputes regarding salaries and other conditions of service or brace itself for a massive nationwide strike. NAGRAT is accusing the Ministries of Education, Finance, the National Labour Commission and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission of deliberately ignoring their petitions for negotiations on their market premium, restoration of annual credits and car maintenance allowances. Addressing a news conference earlier today, NAGRAT General Secretary, Stanislaus Nabome said teachers are fed up, and see fruitless efforts since March 2011 to get their concerns addressed. “As part of the implementation of the SSS pay, certain category of workers are entitled to market premium. contrary to what the FWSC has made to believe that negotiation of market premium has not yet began, we are surprised to realise that a lot of workers within the public sector are being paid the market premium. “In spite of the numerous commitment NAGRAT has demonstrated in pursuit of amicable resolutions the employer has abundantly exhibited bad faith in the matter. “Consequently, the association has given the employer up to January 25, 2013 to resolve all outstanding issues or face industrial action,” he said. He added, teachers are ready to go the full haul to resolve their grievances.
