The President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6th August, in the Ashanti Region.
The fatal incident claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two ministers of state, as well as three Ghana Armed Forces crew members and other senior government officials.
The other deceased persons include Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the NDC and a former Kumasi Mayor.
The Ghana Armed Forces named the crew members as Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
In a heartfelt message of condolences, President Nandi-Ndaitwah stated: “It is with profound sorrow that I learned of the military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6th August, 2025, in the southern Ashanti Region of Ghana. The tragic incident claimed the lives of eight people, among them two Cabinet ministers: Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as well as three Ghana Armed Forces crew members and other senior officials.”
On behalf of the Government and people of Namibia, and in her personal capacity, the President extended deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, the Government, and the people of Ghana during this time of national mourning.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah described the loss of these dedicated leaders as a tragedy not only for Ghana but for the entire African continent, noting that their untimely passing leaves a significant void in public service and leadership.
Highlighting the close ties between Namibia and Ghana, the President emphasised their shared history of liberation struggles and commitment to Pan-African unity.
She assured that Namibia stands in solidarity with Ghana during this painful moment, honouring the memory of the departed as “great sons and daughters of your nation.”
