NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made a passionate appeal to engineers and architects to come out with designs that would insulate markets from future fire outbreaks.
He made the appeal on Monday afternoon at the Makola No.2 market while addressing traders who last week lost their wares and stalls in a market blaze.
Nana Addo said "There've been too many fires in markets in our country and it is time we brought this to an end."
Nana Addo was accompanied by former Greater Accra Regional Minister and MP for Ayawaso Central , Sheik IC Quaye and the former mayor of Accra, Adjiri Blankson.
A visibly distraught Nana Addo walked through the once busy market stalls, watching the destruction left by the fire before turning to the huge crowd to address them.
The crowd, mostly made up of market women, was ecstatic upon his arrival at the grounds, chanting his name as he walked through it.
He also called for a minute's silence in honour of those who lost their valuables in the fire.
Some firemen were in the market battling with the little fires that kept billowing smoke.
