Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, elected presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party ahead of official declaration of results of the party’s flag-bearer race Saturday, has vowed to rally all party members to wrest power from the ruling National Democratic Congress, saying he will not disappoint this time round to win the presidency.
Overwhelmed by a massive endorsement of majority of voting delegates who have doled out no less than 70 per cent of ballots at the close of elections, he told the party’s followers that he was humbled by the fact that he had received the greatest endorsement of any leader ever in the party.
“This is beyond my wildest imagination. Thank you, thank you very much. I promise you, I will not let you down this time”, he said to wild applause at the Efua Sutherland Park, otherwise called the Children’s Park, where the party had arranged to receive the officially declared elections from the Electoral Commission that supervised the polls across the country.
“You can be sure of one thing this evening, they in the Castle (Osu Castle) can hear all this cheering, down the 28th February Road, to the Castle Road and I am sure they are paying rapt attention because today the NPP has spoken with one strong voice. The message is loud and clear; the NPP is ready, sturdy, united and going for victory in 2012. Be prepared!”
Calling his victory as the greatest moment in all his political years, he paid glowing tribute to several leading members of the party as well as the rank and file for building a “a strong political platform” for the ultimate battle ahead in 2012.
“We shall go into that battle confidently on the strong record of the Kufuor presidency…(As he turns towards Kufuor to thank him for), as well as in the new initiatives and perspective we shall bring to bear in the cause of 2012.
