Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, one of the flag bearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Saturday called on party supporters to unite and support any person who would emerge as the party's flag bearer for the 2012 Election to enable NPP recapture power.
He said "Unity is paramount if the party is to win the elections. All good party people should support who ever will be chosen in August to lead the party in the next elections".
Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing about 150 delegates of Wa Central constituency NPP during his campaign tour of the Upper West Region to solicit their mandate to enable him lead the party in Election 2012.
He observed that the NPP lost the 2006 Elections because of divisions in the party during the run up to the polls.
Nana Akufo-Addo alleged that NPP supporters were being subjected to all kinds of maltreatment and brutalities and some lost their jobs after the defeat of NPP and asked the supporters to consider that as a lesson that should inspire them to unite.
He said that he supported the decision to expand the party's Electoral College to cover all polling station executives throughout the country because he believed that power should be strengthened at the grassroots and used wisely to elect someone who could meet the aspirations of the people.
Nana Akufo-Addo said that he was not seeking power for the sake of it but to use the experience he had acquired over the years to meet the aspirations and needs of the people.
He said that he stood by the promises he made to voters during the campaign to the last elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo urged NPP supporters to be vigilant and defend the party all the time.
Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, dubbed the 2012 Election as a "bumper to bumper election".
He appealed to the delegates to elect Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the NPP since he could match their opponents "boot for boot" in Election 2012.
