Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, a former First Lady, has inaugurated the Nsawam Adoagyir Cannery Plant, valued at one million dollars.
Nana Konadu said the company now has 110 workers and expressed the hope that in two years it would be increased to 2000 to cut down on the unemployment rate in the country.
She said GH¢2.7 billion was used to purchase the company in November 1995 with a view of reducing unemployment.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings, who was the special Guest of Honour, advised President Atta Mills to take bold decisions to manage Ghana successfully because people were having difficulty paying their children's school fees and electricity bills.
He commended Nana Konadu and the chiefs and people of the area who supported to revive the company, founded by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana.
Nii Okine Adjei, Project Director of the company, said about 900 hectares of land would be used to cultivate oranges, pineapple and tomatoes to serve as raw materials to feed the company.
