A member of the National Education Reform Committee, Dr Samuel Awuku, has revealed that since President John Mahama inaugurated the committee, a total of 1,501 suggestions have been received.
He explained that these suggestions, which have come from Ghanaians both at home and abroad, provide valuable ideas on how to reset the country’s educational system.
"So far, we have received exactly 1,501 responses, both from across the country and from the diaspora," he told JoyNews' Maxwell Agbagba, just before the committee began its first public hearing in the Volta Regional capital, Ho, on Tuesday, February 18.
Dr Awuku mentioned that key issues raised in the responses include a review of the Free Senior High School programme, the school feeding programme, the school's governing boards, the leadership of schools, and a call for improved quality of education.
The public hearing forum will take place between February 18 and 19 across the country.
After the engagement in Ho, the committee is set to hold a similar exercise in the Western Region.
President John Mahama established the eight-member committee to travel across the country and organise a national education reform initiative, aimed at gathering ideas for resetting the country’s education system, particularly at the basic and secondary levels.
