The National House of Chiefs is calling on the Police to address the rising cases of crime in the country.
The traditional leaders point to an upward trend in armed robberies during the day, which they say needs to be addressed immediately.
Speaking at the meeting of chiefs held on September 30, 2021, the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II requested for Police officials to be properly equipped to deal with the emerging trends of crime across the country.
“The protection of human rights and property remains paramount to Ghanaians. Moreover, the IGP should take concerted efforts to protect police officers in the fight against criminals. There are several instances some police officers suffer critical injuries and even lose their lives in the time of performing their official duties," he said.
"Nananom, therefore, appeals to the government to provide the men and women in uniform with the necessary logistics to discharge their duties in a sound and secured environment," he added.
The House further assured the security forces of their support in investigating criminal incidents. Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II is confident that punishing culprits of these crimes is critical in dealing with the sense of insecurity in the country.
“The National House of Chiefs condemns with no uncertain terms the gruesome murder of three teenagers of Abesim in the Bono Region and the killing of two persons and injuries to four others by soldiers during the protest against the killing of a social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed popularly known as Kaaka Macho on June 28, 2021 at Ejura in the Ashanti Region," he stated.
According to him, "the House of Chiefs will continue to provide our unflinching support to the security services to fish out the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to face the full rigours of the laws of Ghana."
Meanwhile President Akufo-Addo says he’s determined to ensure Ghanaians feel safe in the country.
He’s been speaking at the passing out ceremony of newly recruited Police officers where he said three new helicopters will be delivered to the Police next month to help deal with crimes.
