A construction firm, Anaina International, is accusing the National Security of meddling in a family issue and undertaking an unannounced demolition exercise on its construction site near the Kwabenya roundabout in Accra.
A team of police cum military personnel Thursday dawn moved bulldozers to the construction site to raze down the fence wall of a multi-million state-of-the-art International Business District (IBD) project under construction.
Kwabena Asante, Public Relations Officer of the company alleged on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show hosted by Bernard Saibu that the exercise was executed by the National Security.
Moreover, Joy News gathered that the operation was carried out under the direction of the Ghana Atomic Energy, a claimant to the said land.
Mr. Asante described the exercise as “worrying” and accused the state security of failing to even give them a day’s notice.
“Even as of yesterday (Wednesday), we had series of meetings with senior security officers; we never got any signal of any attempt that what we were doing was illegal. I think that it would be difficult to pinpoint that this demolition exercise truly and genuinely has the hands of the appropriate authorities…we are not bothered, we will still follow [due]processes and see what comes out at the end of the day.”
The site in question has also been the subject of a protracted family dispute. About a couple of months ago the area was cleared of all inhabitants including market women to make way for the new project amidst fierce resistance.
But Kwabenya Asante insists the Anaina International are the “genuine occupants” of the land with all the required legal documents to back their claims.
He said even though the company was aware that the ownership of the about 164-acre land was in dispute, Anaina International bought the land from the side the court had ruled in favour of.
Asked if he was aware of a letter from the Ghana Atomic Energy addressed to his outfit claiming ownership of the land, he replied “That may be what you know, but that to the best of our knowledge is not correct.”
Meanwhile, the Queenmother of Kwabenya Naa Akookor Dugbatey II told Joy News Anaina International cannot be the rightful owners of the land and vowed to fight the issue in court.
She threatened the people of Kwabenya will vote against the government if it fails to step in and ensure that the right things are done.
