The National Service Personnel in the Ho municipality on Thursday went to the rescue of the Volta Regional Hospital Blood Bank when 20 personnel donated blood to the empty bank.
John Wegbe, Officer in charge of the blood bank, said the bank had been " anaemic" for several weeks due to the reluctance of volunteers to donate for the fear of being diagnosed of HIV/AIDS.
He said that at the moment the bank had only one "O" blood, a situation he described as critical.
Mr. Wegbe said the bad state of the bank made it to rely on family donors.
He commended the personnel and appealed to other institutions and individuals to make blood donation part of their lives.
The personnel later organized a clean up exercise at the Ho Polyclinic and donated items worth 2.5 million cedis patients of the clinic.
Michael Agbodeka, Personnel Coordinator in the municipality, said the donations were part of activities marking National Service Week.Source: GNA
