The Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Technology, Sam George, has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to begin a frequency audit aimed at recovering state resources that are currently in the hands of private individuals unlawfully.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Communications on Wednesday, April 9, the Minister announced the audit as part of the government’s broader initiative, known as Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), which seeks to enforce accountability and transparency in the use of state assets under the Ministry’s control.
“To the people of Ghana, I offer you this assurance: I will get to the bottom of these issues and act decisively to restore sound financial stewardship in the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation,” the minister said.
He explained that the first phase of the frequency audit, which focuses on broadcasting frequencies, had already revealed serious irregularities.
“The exercise has identified incidents of noncompliance that will attract a total tax penalty of about 9.5 million Ghana cedis. There are also several infractions that warrant immediate shutdowns or revocation of licences,” he added.
He assured the public that the government is fully committed to taking the necessary actions to correct these breaches and ensure the lawful management of communication resources.
Beyond the frequency audit, Mr George also outlined efforts to revitalise Ghana Post, positioning it to benefit from the rise in e-commerce activity.
“I have taken steps to better position Ghana Post to take advantage of increased e-commerce activity and to ensure Ghana’s readiness to trade fully under the African Continental Free Trade Area,” he noted.
