The National Communications Authority (NCA) says it is diligently monitoring processes involved in the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in order to correct problems that subscribers may face or are facing. Officials of the NCA, in a statement, explained that difficulties subscribers face during the porting process are mainly due to human errors and misunderstanding of the processes involved. The NCA’s statement follows after complaints of delays in porting, unsuccessful loading of credits and network difficulties by subscribers who have ported to other networks. Mobile Number Portability came into effect in Ghana on July 7, 2011 revolutionize the country’s already dynamic telecom industry. The NCA said as at Sunday, 31st July, 2011 about 21,059 subscribers had successfully ported their numbers after 25 days. So far NCA’s analysis of data for the month of July showing porting requests completed, 10 percent were completed in 15 minutes or less, 23 percent were completed between 15 minutes and 1 hour, 34% were completed between 1 and 4 hours, 31pecent were completed between 4 and 24 hours and 2% were completed in more than 24 hours. The fastest port recorded so far in Ghana took place in a 1 minute, 10 seconds. The average port took place in 5 hours, 21 minutes from start to finish.
